The useful question for a business is whether they can complete the right purchase with accurate information.

The development

Shopify\u2019s October 28 developer announcement describes new ways for agents to use its catalog, cart and checkout, including structured storefront tools. Check availability for your store before treating an announced feature as something your customers can use today.

Shopify\u2019s developer announcement \u2192

What it means for your business

Native agent access is becoming part of commerce infrastructure. Connecting is one step; accurate product information and a working purchase journey remain the merchant\u2019s responsibility.

Whatever platform you use, follow a real customer question through the supported journey: find the right product, select the right option, understand the price and availability, and reach the correct checkout. A successful connection does not prove those steps work together.

One practical check this week

Choose a product with more than one size, color or other option. Follow one available option through your supported shopping experience to the checkout handoff. Check that the product and option stay the same, the price and currency remain accurate, and availability is clear.

Then try an unavailable option. It should not appear purchasable. Save what you observed and repeat the check after a relevant catalog or integration change. Stop before placing a real order unless you intend and are authorized to buy.

If you publish a product feed, check stable product identifiers and links that preserve the selected option. OpenAI\u2019s product-feed specification is one concrete example of these requirements.

OpenAI product-feed specification \u2192

For API and service businesses

Apply the same check to your own buying journey: can an agent find the service, understand the inputs and price, and obtain the promised result? A directory listing or valid price quote proves only part of that journey.

What are you seeing?

Reply to support@mekler.ai with an agent-commerce question you would like us to examine in a future issue. Please leave out customer data, credentials and other private information.
"}]}
